Fifty Chinese carriages arrive in December

Sri Lanka Railway Department is to receive 50 out of the ordered 100 railway carriages from China on 12th December 2007.

The carriage-strapped Railway is receiving 75 new carriages a new with the arrival of these carriages.

The first batch of 25 carriages arrived in Sri Lanka in September and they are now coupled to existing trains. The rest 50 carriages will arrive in Sri Lanka in two batches in mid December, a Ministry of Transport spokesman said.

Sri Lanka has ordered 15 locomotive engines from China to upgrade the services and they are to arrive in Sri Lanka next year.
