The Railway Security Force took steps to remove the unauthorized constructions along the main rail-line that stood blocking the new Kelani rail bridge.  Railway authorities had taken steps to obtain even a Court Order to remove these unauthorized constructions.

Plans are already drawn to construct another rail-line over this new bridge which was constructed at a cost of Rs.1.5 billion.  The aim of this Project is to streamline the rail transportation along the main-line and the up-country line.

Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister of Transport stresses that with a view of ensuring safety of the passengers and an efficient rail service to the public, the Ministry of Transport has taken a strong decision to remove all unauthorized constructions along the rail lines that stand a hindrance to the future development of the rail service.

During the past, a large number of passengers met with tragedy owing to these unauthorized constructions and hence this step has been highly praised by the rail passengers.  On the directions of the Hon. Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and under the supervision of the GMR, the Railway Security Force has sped up the process of removal of the unauthorized constructions along the rail roads.
