Eighteen persons arrested at Fort Station
Eighteen young men who were residents of Chavakachcheri, Killinochchi, Vavuniya and Thopur areas were arrested on Thursday during a search operation at the Fort Railway Station, the Fort Police said.
Fort inspector Pradeep Ratnayake said the suspects had arrived in Colombo by train from Vavuniya and Batticoloa.
They said they had come to Colombo to obtain passports to travel abroad in view of the prevailing security situation in the North East.
But at the time of the arrest they did not have with them the documents required from an applicant for the issue of a passport. The suspects were detained for further inquiries.
