The Railway Department has drawn up plans to increase railway fares by 60 percent, department sources said.
The proposal, containing a table of increased fares together with necessary suggestions, had recently been submitted to Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma by the relevant officers of the Ministry, sources said.

Bomb Hoax in Aluthgama Train
A bomb scare interrupted the Aluthgama bound train from Colombo in Moratuwa short while ago causing panic among hundreds of passengers who immediately vacated the train. Some passengers suffered minor injuries while rushing out of the train. It was later found that the bomb scare was a hoax.
