Couple struck by train in Wellawatta

A young couple who were walking along the rail tracks in Wellawatta were struck by a train last afternoon. The girl was killed on the spot.
The couple were reportedly hit by a Galle bound train at around 3.30pm, in the Beach Wadiya area of Wellawatta.

Railways development projects since 2006

The Railway Department has repaired 155 railway carriages and 26 railway locomotives since 2006 and these carriages and locomotives have been successfully introduced by the Railway into regular service. The department has also successfully renovated 122 Railway Station since 2006.

Derailment disrupts coastal train services

The coastal train service was completely disrupted when a train travelling from Matara to Kandy was derailed near the Boossa railway station at about 3.00pm yesterday.
When the train was shunted to another track to allow another train to pass it had been derailed and come to rest on the sleepers.

Gang targetting train commuters identified

The Anuradhapura Police on Wednesday arrested a member of a gang that befriends train commuters and steals their valuables after drugging them.
He was arrested at the Anuradhapura Railway station when Police searched the Uttaradevi train plying from Medwachiya to Anuradhapura.

Austria funds new Railway Bridges
