Kataragama railway line on right track
It has been targetted to complete the construction of the Matara – Kataragama railway line up to Beliatta by 2010 according to the Minister of Transport Dullas Alahapperuma.
The Minister said construction work of the bridge across Nilwala Ganga at Piladuwa is in progress. The bridge is a creation of the Austrian Government.
He said that the Matara-Beliatta Railway line will be vested with the people with the dawn of the New Year in 2010.
The six kilometre railway line from Matara to Kekanadura will be completed within a year. The railway line from Matara to Kataragama will be funded by the Government of Austria while the railway line from Kekanadura to Beliatta will be funded by the governments of India and Japan, the Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Nihal Somaweera told the Daily News.
