Bomb scare at Panadura railway station
A bomb scare created much havoc in Panadura town last morning when a suspicious parcel was found in a train from Chilaw.
The train terminating at Panadura arrived at 8.30 am and was to leave for Colombo at 9.35 am. The passengers who noticed the unclaimed bag in a rear compartment of the train informed it to the railway officials who immediately called the police and detached the compartment to prevent any possible damage to other compartments in case of an explosion.
A police team from Panadura that initiated inquiries called the Army Bomb Squad. However, the bag contained a bundle of old clothes and nothing suspicious. The ‘Galu Kumari’ express train was stopped at Dehiwala yesterday to facilitate the passengers who were held up at Panadura railway station.
