Matara goods train derails at Kataluwa
A goods train derailed at Ahangama near Kataluwa on the coastal line this evening at around 3.15pm. The derailment occurred when two goods wagons jumped the rails. The goods train was heading from Galle towards Matara. The rails and sleepers on the line were damaged due to this incident. No persons were injured in the accident.
The Railway Control Room says all train services on the coastal line between Galle and Matara have been suspended until the necessary repairs are conducted. The public are requested to use alternative forms of transport untill the repairs are finished. The control room further said that investigations will be conducted to ascertain the reason for this derailment.
