Special transport facilities for Vesak
The Transport Ministry has made special arrangements to provide additional transport facilities to the public on account of Vesak celebrations, a ministry spokesman said.
Accordingly additional trains will be on service from Fort, Batticaloa, Anuradhapura, Mahawa, Aluthgama, Maradana, Galle, Badulla, Hatton, Rambukkana and Kandy at 40 minutes intervals up to May 21, the Ministry announced.
Meanwhile putting additional buses to the fleet of existing buses during the Vesak festival, the SLTB has drawn the attention of passengers to be extra vigilant about possible terrorist activities during the Vesak season.
The National Transport Commission has requested to pay maximum attention on the security of passengers, to carry out a thorough check of the bus before the start of the journey.
Provide maximum co-operation for defence units to check baggage and parcels, convince the passengers to keep their baggage to themselves, inform the defence units in case of any suspicious baggage or parcels and withdraw from that place as early as possible, allow passengers to identify their baggage before the start of the journey when long distance buses stop at refreshing centres, light up the buses and bus terminals, avoid overloading and enable changes in the bus time table and execute additional turns for available buses to mitigate congestion etc.
