Police ordered to arrest engine driver, assistant

The Inquirer in to Sudden Deaths, Galle, A. M. M. Awoon yesterday ordered police to arrest the engine driver and his assistant of the ill fated “Rajarata Rejina” express train which derailed at Thotagamuwa on Monday killing three people and wounding many and produce them before Galle Magistrate.

At the inquest, he said that the statements given by the driver and his assistant were conflicting and that one of the reasons for the derailment was that the train had travelled at an excessive speed.

Three school children from Miriswatte Vidyalaya, Bentota were killed in the accident.
