Steps to upgrade train service
Most of the 100 railway compartments imported from China have already been deployed in the service, General Manager of Railways, Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan said.
He further said that these imported compartments have been fixed with modern facilities to accommodate more passengers.
The Government has also taken steps to import 15 more power sets to be deployed in the coastal and other lines except on the Kelani Velly line.
“S 8 engines from the other lines could be used for the Kelani Valley line as speed and technology of the new engine are not compatible on this line and,” the General Manager added.
The Government spent Rs.5250 million for the import of these new power sets, which will be added to the fleet from October this year.
