Signalling system upgraded upto Matara

Upgrading the railways system with new infrastructure facilities, the Ceylon Government Railway has extended the Railway ’signalling system’ up to Matara, replacing the old system of ‘exchanging tablets’.
The new system is introduced to ensure control of railway traffic safely, said General Manager of Railways, Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan.

Trains to run on bio-diesel from 2010

The Sri Lanka Railways will run trains and powersets using bio-diesel by 2010 to curtail the drain on foreign exchange to import petroleum products, Transport Minister, Dullas Alahapperuma said yesterday.
