CGR to get 15 power sets from China
The CGR will import 15 power sets from China shortly. They will cost Rs. 5250 million and arrive in Sri Lanka in September 2008. This will supplement one hundred carriages already imported, the Transport Ministry said.
Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma told The Island that the railway services would be streamlined to cater to the needs of train commuters. A large number of office workers preferred to travel by train.
The CGR could be improved as a profitable government organisation with substantial revenue provided that unnecessary cadres were made redundant while retaining qualified personnel to work.
