No decision to close Fort Railway Station
Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that the story about the closure of the station as reported by the media was untrue.
Mr. Abeywardena addressing a news briefing said that the closure of Fort Railway Station, as described in the news media, was a blatant lie.
He said there was no decision taken by the government to close the station and the fact that it was false information came to light last morning.
Meanwhile, the police said yesterday that the government was reconsidering the move to close the Fort Railway Station during the SAARC summit — to avoid inconveniencing the public.
Police media spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said that the move to close the station would be reconsidered at another meeting to be held with senior police officers last evening.
He said that an alternative solution would be announced today at a special news briefing on the security situation and the traffic plan for Colombo City during the SAARC Summit.
