Two trains collide: One dead, 32 injured

One person was killed and 32 people injured as the Polgahawela bound train and the Kandy bound intercity train collided at the Ganemulla station around 4 p.m yesterday, the Trains Control Room and Gampaha hospital sources said yesterday.

A train collision has been reported from Ganemulla. The Fort-Polgahawela train has been parked at the station when the Fort-Kandy intercity train had arrived and collided from behind, damaging the last compartment of the parked train, according to eye witnesses. Sixteen persons are reported injured and dispatched to hospital. One male has been reported dead.

Train services will be crippled from midnight today (24) by a ceaseless work-to-rule campaign, the Joint Railway Services Trade Union Front (JRSTUF) has warned.
