Sri Lanka Railway income up
Sri Lanka Railway Chairman Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan says the income of the Railway Department has risen by one billion rupees per year with the recent railway fare hike.
The Department’s income has gone up from two billion rupees per year to three billion rupees, he said.
The Chairman pointed out these figures addressing a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday. Sri Lanka Railway increased the train fares up by 100% recently.
Sri Lanka Railways enhanced with new power sets
Sri Lanka Railways will receive three power sets ordered from China this month. Railway Department sources say that the power sets will arrive at the Ports by September 13.
The new power sets are to be used on the track by mid October this year.
Sri Lanka has ordered 15 power sets from China and the rest of the machines are also to arrive in the country before the end of the year. They are expected to be put in service from January next year.
