Routine checking of trains following bomb scare
All trains are likely to be subjected to routine security checks in future following two false bomb scares on two South bound trains at Mt. Lavinia yesterday, Railway authorities said.
The Galle bound Samudradevi train was stopped for about half and hour yesterday at the Mt. Lavinia Railway Station after the passengers claimed they noted the behavior of a suspicious commuter.
“Both the police and army conducted a search operation on the train but found nothing,” the Railway control room told the Daily Mirror.
Moments later another train was also subjected to a security check at the same railway station after passengers reported seeing a suspicious parcel.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara however said that the parcel was not a bomb and the train was permitted to proceed.
