Extended coastal railway line to be opened soon
Sri Lanka Ministry of Transport is to declare open the dual track railway line extended to Wadduwa and newly installed railway signal system early next week.
This project, completed utilizing 100% domestic resources including the services extended by the retired Railway employees has managed to build a 15.16 km long new railway track parallel to the existing coastal line. In addition, the Austrian Government has provided a sum of 458 million rupees to expand the existing Kalutara Bridge.
The second stage of this project to extend the dual track on the coastal line to Kalutara South – Payagala is expected to be kicked off in January next year.
