New Intercity Express

A new Intercity Express train service between Colombo Fort and Nanu-Oya will be launched by the Railway Department with effect from the 1st of December. This new service will address the long felt need of people travelling to Nuwera Eliya and thus more room will be available on the two Menikes for people who travel to Badulla and Bandarawela.

The Intercity Express will depart from Colombo Fort at 8.30 am and arrive in Nanu-Oya at 2.14 pm. Then leave Nanu-Oya at 3.20 pm and arrive in Colombo at 9.00 pm.

Train Fare Reduction

All train fare above Rs. 15 will be reduced with effect from the 1st of December. This was annouced in the new budget for 2009.

Batticoloa – Kalmunai Service

Passengers complain that the Batticoloa – Kalmunai connecting bus service has not been functioning properly for the last few months and thus passengers who arrive from Colombo face many hardships when travelling to Kalmunai and other far off places.

      There was once an Intercity Express train service between Colombo Fort and Nanu-Oya in the 1980′ but it was suddenly stopped with out notice. Good to see that they are reintroducing it!
