New Intercity Service to Nanu Oya
Two new daily intercity express trains to ply between Fort and Nanuoya will be introduced to the public from tomorrow. One of the new trains will leave Fort Railway Station at 8:35a.m. and reach Nanuoya at 2:10 p.m. The second train will leave Nanuoya at 3:20 p.m. and arrive in Colombo at 9 p.m.
“Until now there had only been the Colombo-Kandy intercity train operating on the up country line,” Sri Lanka Railways Transport Superintendent Vijaya Samarasinghe said.
According to Samarasinghe, the main purpose was to extend the intercity service to Badulla in the near future.
“Nearly 460 passengers can travel in this train. A First Class ticket covering the entire distance would cost Rs. 630 and a Second Class ticket is priced at Rs. 380. The amounts charged for journeys in between would vary, depending on the distance,” Samarasinghe said.
The train will make stops at Peradeniya, Gampola, Nawalapitiya, Hatton and Thalawakale Stations. It includes a dining compartment and an observation carriage.
According to Samarasinghe, they are planning to arrange a bus service to facilitate the passengers’. Journeys beyond Nanuoya.

Yes that’s true… that intercity train gets delay every time. the railway authority must take an action regarding this matter. This is really inconvenience to passengers. This train must divided to two then one train can leave Fort in the morning and the returning one can leave bit earlier.
This Colombo-Nanu- Oya Intercity train although a good one for passengers that can travel without any hassle but must reconsider the times and must adjust with PODI MANIKE AND THE UDERATA MANIKE.
Best regards

i dont no way they dont send the intercity to nanu oya from colombo at 5.55am instead of podi menike podi menike is a uncomfortable train. it has problems like booking tickets to come back from nanu oya no 2nd reserved seats only two 2nd class no reserved compartments.if we buy tickets we dont get seats. so please send nanu oya intercity at 5.55am from colombo.
PLEASE report this to railway

I travelled this train yesterday and it was wonderful.I thank railways about this improvement. We have to book udarata manike for onward journey since intercity is only on weekends now.The udarata manike and podi manike are in very bad shape now.Even in observation saloon seats broken, windows, lights broken. And now it only has one 2nd class carrige redusing to 6 carriges. The railways need to improve these trains since lot of tourists travel on them

Nanu oya intercity was recently suspended due to lack of passenger interest. No wonder, because it was initiated during school vacation time, and after vacation there are lesser regular passengers. I know from my long experience in travelling to and from upcountry and Colombo that the greater passenger demand is to come towards Colombo in the morning and get back to upcountry stations in the evening. Therefore I would suggest railway authorities to start this intercity train FROM NANUOYA in the MORNING, say at around 5.30 to reach Colombo by around 11.30 and return to Nanuoya by around 13.30 to reach nanuoya by 19.30. (The pattern of possible passenger demand could be seen by referring to train nos 29 and 30, the Kandy Colombo Intercity). Furthermore, better attach a 3rd class carriage for better passenger response.

nanu oya intercity should run daily after 6th on week days also i think from colombo if train leaves early morning its better. nanu oya ice should run 5.30am from colombo not from nanu oya which will arrive to nau oya around 11.00am from nanu oya 12.30 pm to reach colombo at 6.00pm. i think people now use to this train there will be more crowd on week days
