Train tragedy: Young company employee falls to his death
It was a tragic end for a young company employee who fell to his death while trying to board a moving train at the Ragama railway station last week.
The victim was identified as W. Kusal Indrajith Perera (24), a trainee at Dialog Telecom.
W. Wilbert, the driver of the train told the coroner’s inquest that he saw the victim trying to jump onto the train while it was still slowing down at the station.
“As the train was still moving, he lost his balance and fell into the gap between the train and the platform”, he said.
The mishap took place around 9.50 am when the Colombo-bound express train from Trincomalee was steaming into the Ragama station, he said.
The victim was admitted to the Ragama hospital with a severed leg but later succumbed to his injuries.
Ragama JMO, Dr. R. S. D. M. Peiris, who conducted the autopsy, determined that death was caused by brain damage.
A verdict of accidental death was returned by the coroner.
