Train service in crisis again as drivers on work-to-rule
Sri Lankan Railway drivers have started a ceaseless work-to-rule campaign against the actions of Railway officials.
The Secretary of the Railway Drivers Union Mahinda Karunaratna said the disciplinary action taken by the Railways Department on the recent Ganemulla train accident was unfair.
The Union blames the faulty signaling system for the accident and demands to reinstate the four employees who were suspended from work.
Nearly eight percent of the train services were late this morning due to the work-to-rule campaign of drivers, Karunaratna added.
The Railway Drivers Union has decided to continue the work-to-rule campaign until the solution is reached.
Meanwhile the Transport Officer of the Railways Department Wije Samarasingha said that he was not informed by the drivers on this work-to-rule campaign.
One rail commuter was killed and 26 other commuters were injured at Ganemulla Railway Station in September when Kandy bound express train collided with a slow train plying from Colombo while it was stopped at the station.
