M2 Manitoba back on track after four years
Commemorating the fourth anniversary of Sri Lanka’s unprecedented tragedy of the deadly Tsunami, the Railway Department is scheduled to launch today the repaired engine of the train that was struck by the tsunami in 2004.
The historical first journey of the engine will commence at about 6:30 a.m. today from the Fort Railway station with the participation of Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.
According to the Railway Department the repaired engine will carry train carraiges daily to southern city of Matara from today.
The Queen of the Sea with ten carriages along the Southern coastal line was at Peraliya nearing its destination when the killer waves struck it and toppled over and over claiming more than 1000 lives.

Great work by locomotive engineers and technicians of Sri Lanka railways.I wonder why cant do the same thing for the M9 loco engines which are off the track for want of spares or for other reasons which we dont know.In UK these French GEC ALSTOM engines are doing a good job.
