Bomb scare disrupts rail services
Train services on the main Wattala-Hunupitiya line were disrupted for around one and a half hours yesterday morning after a suspicious parcel found on the rail track created a bomb scare in the area, police said.
The army bomb disposal squad was summoned by the police as train services in the direction of Ragama came to a temporary halt and residents were moved out as a security measure.
The bomb squad which examined the parcel wrapped in polythene found some iron nails inside it, police said.
Police believe that it had been placed on the track by drug addicts who haunt the area.
“In any case, we didn’t want to take a chance”, a police official said.
