Rail strike successful says Union
The Sri Lanka Station Masters Union claimed that the train strike launched by it yesterday was successful. President of the union K.V. Jayasena said the strike was 75% successful. The union said 90% of employees from the Fort Railway station and 100% from the Maradana Railway Station participated in the strike.
Mr. Jayasena claimed the strike had resulted in a breakdown of the train service. The union warned that it will resort to further union action if their demands are not met.
The union is demanding the implementation of circular 6/2006 regarding salary revisions to all grades of Station Masters.
Meanwhile General Manager, Railways Lalithsiri Gunaruwan said only 12 railway stations out of 298 had taken part in the strike.
