Rs. 4 billion needed to renovate of Sri Lanka’s Northern rail track
Sri Lanka transport officials have estimated that nearly Rs. 4 billion is needed for the renovation of the Northern rail track which has severely damaged due to the war in the past decade.
According to the Transport Ministry an assessment report has already been compiled on the damages caused to the rail track and other equipment. Most of the track has been pulled up by the LTTE to construct bunkers.
Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan, General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways said over Rs. 4 billion would be spent to renovate the rail line from Vavuniya to Point Pedro in Jaffna peninsula.
Sri Lanka government hopes to import the rail tracks from Australia.
