The Railway Department has eased the restrictions on transporting electrical equipment by trains.

The Department has taken this decision following the conclusion of war and the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the country, said Wijey Samarasingha, Commercial Superintendent of Railways.

Sri Lanka government maintained this restriction for almost two years during the final battles with the LTTE.

The Railway Department imposed this restriction after several suicide attacks carried out by the LTTE targeting some office trains.
