Fire in train restaurant car due to negligence
The Organization for Protection of the Properties and the Rights of Railway Employees (OPPRRE) charged yesterday that the fire that broke out in the restaurant car of the Yal Devi train was due to the carelessness of the canteen owner and the public would be burdened because of the millions in losses. The compartment next to the restaurant car was damaged due to the fire.
The Convener of the (OPPRRE) Sumathipala Manawadu said the selected contractors of the railway canteen should have deposited money but in this instance the Yal Devi restaurant owner had not paid a deposit.
The (OPPRRE) had already made the public aware about the malpractices in calling for tenders for railway canteens. The relevant authorities were to be held responsible for the lapses and the case was not the first nor the final case of the railway service, Manawadu said. (H.G.)

Gas cylinder explosion is a result of using the wrong type of gas cylinders in the retaurent car. Home LP gas cylinders must not be used in passenger transport systems. It should be the cylinders designed according to ASME or similar design codes. I have prepared a detailed memo on this subject. Please send me the e-mail address of a responsible officer for me to submit it.
Thank you
