Schools outside north donate funds for Elephant Pass station

Schoolchildren and teachers from schools outside the Northern Province have collected Rs. 10 million as donations for the construction of the Elephant Pass railway station.Issuing a media communiqué, the Education Ministry said yesterday that  those wishing to contribute towards this worthy cause can do so and it could be as little as two rupees to the bank account 9393439 maintained at the Pelawatte branch of Bank of Ceylon.

Meanwhile, the government has also decided to seek financial assistance from the Chinese government to accelerate the development of the northern railway line. Accordingly, an agreement will be signed with the ‘Xing Bank of China for this purpose. Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma said the government has decided to complete the construction of this railway line within the shortest possible time.
