Vavuniya – KKS rail track to cost Rs.6 bn
It has been estimated that re-laying of the rail track beyond Vavuniya up to Kankesanthurai would cost Rs 6 billion. The project to relay the track has been named “Uthuru Mithuru”.
There are 27 stations between Vavuniya and Kankesanthurai and 27 sponsors have been found. Some stations have already been rebuilt, Transport Ministry sources said.
Necessary funds to re-lay the tracks have been collected and work would get underway soon, sources said.
