Udarata Menike derailed

The engine and four compartments of the Colombo-bound Udarata Menike train was derailed between Peradeniya and Kadugannawa around 2.00 pm yesterday.

Sri Lanka Railways revenues have risen last year earning over four billion rupees, Railways Commercial Superintendent Wijaya Samarasinghe said.

Podi Menike gets new observation compartment

The Railway Department will introduce a new observation compartment consisting 44 seats to the Podi Menike express train plying from Colombo to Badulla.

Construction of Nochchimotte bridge complete

Construction work on the “Nochchimotte” bridge which is the second largest bridge along the Northern Railway line between Thandikulam to Kankesanthurai has been completed.
The bridge which was located between Thandikulam and Omanthai railway stations was destroyed during the war.
