This is the most cheapest mode of transport, since it has lowest unit cost for the transporting goods. If the authorities take the required measures to link national railway network with existing railway network within the Colombo port, it would be an optimal solution for the traffic congestion in Colombo CBD. Other countries like India and China, who had two digit economic growth in 2008,are transporting several containers with one top of the other, that method will reduce the freight rates further more.Major concern must go to ensure the competition of the industry, then only it will be improving, so it is better to invite the private investors to the industry. Your promotions in mass medias are not sufficient. Also, if SLR could fix one LCD display in Hitachi Train compartments to see the view of the front track through a camera eye, that will give trmendous experiance to the travellers Sri Lanka Railway can contribute tourism industry (for Locals and Foreigners) in Sri Lanka in many ways. Indian railway is good enough for railways with low budget... The testing process and quality is very poor...So you need to do compromise Again ,a good point to note…

It is good to see they have taken the necessary steps to get the trains running again.
