Container damages the Keleniya Railway Bridge

Train services on the main line were interrupted for over five hours last morning when a container truck hit the rail bridge at Biyagama Road, closer to Peliyagoda. The container crashed into the ‘Kalu Palama’ damaging the overhead railway lines, a railway official said.

Bridge On The River Kwai engineer dies

The man who built the bridge over the River Kwai for the movie classic has died aged 85.
War veteran and civil engineer Keith Best OBE, of Chessingham Gardens, off Tadcaster Road in York, designed and built the centrepiece of the 1957 film, which scooped seven Oscars, including Best Picture.

Residents ask for flyovers over crossings

The residents of several areas in the Kurunegala district stressed the need to erect flyover bridges to prevent accidents at the railway level crossings.

Kataragama railway line on right track

Another flyover in Panadura

The Foundation Stone for another flyover to be built in Panadura was laid recently by the Minister of Highways and Road Development, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.

Finished Keleniya fly-over inaugurated

President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the flyover at Thorana Junction, Peliyagoda today (25th) at 7.00 am.
The iron flyover was completed in record time, all the work being done within 60 days.

The Railway Department has repaired 155 railway carriages and 26 railway locomotives since 2006 and these carriages and locomotives have been successfully introduced by the Railway into regular service. The department has also successfully renovated 122 Railway Station since 2006.
