Railways development projects since 2006

The Railway Department has repaired 155 railway carriages and 26 railway locomotives since 2006 and these carriages and locomotives have been successfully introduced by the Railway into regular service. The department has also successfully renovated 122 Railway Station since 2006.

Multi billion tender attracts good response

Sri Lankan Railways (SLR) announced yesterday that over 20 prospective suppliers have collected tender applications from the Ministry of Transport in response to a recent worldwide tender issued by the Ministry to supply 15 locomotives at a cost of over Rs.4.5billion.

Twenty more DMU’s to arrive from India

Twenty powersets will be imported from India under the Indian Credit Line next year to complement the 15 to be imported from China.
