Yal Devi extended to Vavuniya

The 5.45 a.m. Yal Devi Express Train from Colombo which terminated at Medawachiya on the Northern line will be extended to Vavuniya from today (December 16).

Yal Devi made her maiden journey on April 23, 1956, with two other trains, Udarata Menike and Ruhunu Kumari and because of this many, Sri Lankans considered them as three sisters.

Total ban on public transport out of Vavuniya
The government has suspended passenger train services to Vavuniya and blocked the movement of all civilian vehicles, including public sector transport southwards beyond Irretteperiyakulam, Vavuniya with immediate effect as part of security measures to meet the LTTE’s military challenge.
