Chinese carriages replace aged ones in trains

In his efforts to improve the Railway Service, Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma has instructed railway authorities to replace 20 years old coaches of Yal Devi with Chinese-built new coaches which have modern facilities that include a public music system, spokesman for the Ministry Sumith Chandana Weerasingha said.

Railways development projects since 2006

The Railway Department has repaired 155 railway carriages and 26 railway locomotives since 2006 and these carriages and locomotives have been successfully introduced by the Railway into regular service. The department has also successfully renovated 122 Railway Station since 2006.
