Recent derailments due to financial constraints

General Manager Railways, Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan attributed the recent derailments to the acute financial constraints, there is a short supply of spare parts such as sleepers, rails and locomotive engine components.

Removal of engines cost SLR dearly

Railway trade unions claim that the Department had incurred a loss of Rs. 1400  million due to the removal of seven M9 engines from the service.
