Train services collapse as station masters strike

Station masters of the Sri Lanka Railway Department began a two-day strike today disrupting the train service and leaving thousands of train commuters stranded at train stations.

New station, substations and loop line

A ceremony to transform the Megammana and Pahalathalawinna railway halts into substations will be held today in Pahalathalawinna in the Matale district with Railways General Manager Lalithasiri Gunaruwan in attendance.

Railways development projects since 2006

The Railway Department has repaired 155 railway carriages and 26 railway locomotives since 2006 and these carriages and locomotives have been successfully introduced by the Railway into regular service. The department has also successfully renovated 122 Railway Station since 2006.
